天堂视频 Health Outcomes Research & Education in Cancer (SHORE-C) has celebrated its 25th anniversary this month, marking a quarter of a century of impactful research and education in psychosocial oncology at 天堂视频 and Brighton and 天堂视频 Medical School (BSMS).
The centre relocated from the Department of Oncology at UCL to 天堂视频 on 1 February 2001, supporting 天堂视频’s successful bid to become one of the UK’s new medical schools.
Over the past 25 years, SHORE-C has built a strong national and international reputation for research that improves the experiences of people affected by cancer. Its work includes developing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and educational initiatives that assess quality of life, increase participation in cancer clinical trials, reduce treatment side-effects, strengthen healthcare professionals’ communication skills, and support patient understanding.
More than 45 researchers, administrators and data managers have contributed to SHORE-C’s work, with many progressing into clinical psychology, administration and medical education roles. The centre has secured millions in research funding, helped establish psychosocial oncology as a recognised sub-specialty and trained clinicians worldwide.
The anniversary was celebrated on Monday 2 February with past and present colleagues reflecting on SHORE-C’s achievements and legacy.
